Rv Living Verses Apartment Living

A integrate of years ago my wife and I decided we were going to voyage the Us in a semi-retired state. We kicked out the kids (all over 21), sold our home and purchased an Rv. Well live situations change and we didn't get on the road, at least not yet. We ended up staying in the area and taking full time jobs. But we decided at the time to stay in the Rv as full-timers.

The purpose of the article is to offer some insight as to the possibilities of using Rv's instead of apartments and the advantages of Rving. First a petite background for those that are not customary with the Recreational car (Rv) terms. Rvs are classified into some distinct categories.

Portable & Novelty TVs

Class A are the bus like vehicles you see traveling down the road. These are also calLED Motorhomes and for good reason. Class A's are the cream of the crop so to speak. They are the most high-priced in terms of cost but have the most storehouse and amenities. I have seen some genuinely nice Class A's and when it comes time for us to upgrade or trade in our current Rv we will be finding at the Class A again. However, my tastes start in the 0,000 range, which is a petite hard for me to justify.

Next are Class B, these are mini motorhomes. They are built on a light to medium truck chassis and can be identified by the truck cab appearance of the vehicle. In my opinion, these will not be favorable for full time use unless you genuinely like small places. Some newer Class Bs are together with what are calLED slides which are sections of the Rv that 'slide out' from the body giving you more living space inside. Living space is what you will be finding for in the long run.

After the Class B comes Fifth Wheels. Fifth Wheels are trailers that are pulled by pickup trucks. So to get a fifth wheel you will also need a pickup truck of standard size. I would form at least a ¾ ton pickup. Fifth wheels offer an benefit over Class A and Class B in that once you have the fifth wheel set up on a campsite, the truck is detached and can be used as a means of transportation. With Class A & B Rv's you will need to either tow or bring other car with you to get around. Fifth wheels coming the Class A Rv in amenities and in some cases have more space. Dollar for dollar you will get more living space in a fifth wheel than a Class A.

However, you do need an high-priced tow car (truck) which has to be carefully as part of the purchase. The fifth wheel is also part of a class carefully as 'Towables'. The next 'towable' is the voyage trailer (Tt). These are similar to the fifth wheel except in the connections to the tow vehicle. With Tt you join together to a hitch that sits near the bumper of the vehicle. Hence, just about any car has the capabilities of towing a Tt depending on size and weight of course. Class A, Fifth Wheels and voyage Trailers are the 3 main Rv that you will find citizen living in on a fulltime basis. After the Tt comes the camper class. These are light weight Rv genuinely not favorable for full time, however, I have met citizen that are full-timers in pop-ups, truck campers and even tents. The top of the line for the camper class is probably the truck campers.

These are units that slide into the bed of a pickup truck. In general, the max distance is no more than 12 feet from front to back and maybe 10 feet side to side. They are very compact. These offer the greatest in freedom, in that they are quick to setup and take down so that you can move swiftly from place to place. However, just like the class A & B, your home is also your transportation, unless you bring other car with you. The last group of towables is the popup or tent trailers. These have a study box frame and as the name implies pop up or lift up to raise the roof over the frame. This class of campers commonly have soft sides made of cloth. I have used popups for years as an alternative to hotels while on assignments around the country. Even did some camping in the middle of winter with snow on the ground in a popup. Needless to say, a heater was required and it ran all day and all night. At night it wasn't able to keep up with the cold so the morning was a petite fun getting out of bed. It was 20 degrees exterior and about 50 inside.

That is a basic overview of the types of Rv's available. As mentioned before, Class A, Fifth wheel and voyage Trailers are the units that most citizen will find favorable for full-time living.

Our experiences with living full-time in an Rv.

We currently have a fifth wheel. Ours is from Jayco and is 38 feet long with 3 slides. One slide is in the bedroom, the other two slides are in the living room one on each side of the trailer. After roughly 3 years in the Rv as full-timers, we both love it. My wife likes to say it takes less than an hour to clean from front to back, floor to ceiling.

Let's start with the financial side of living in a Rv. You have the cost of the Rv. These are to be treated just like cars. If you buy new, you will take a beating on depreciation. However, like a home, the interest is tax deductible. So the best deal seems to be a unit that is a year or two old and financed. If you want to buy new, form a discount of about 25-30% off from the list price. Our unit was a 2003 still on the lot in 2005 with the 2006 units being delivered. The emblem price was over ,000. We paid ,000 saving us about 38 percent. Now at the time we did not have a tow car so the dealer delivered the fifth wheel to a near by campground.

Oak Grove in Hatfield, Pa is a year round campground. This is important. You want to find a campground that offers year round operations. You don't want to have to move out in the wintertime. A lot of camp grounds close from November to March or early April. When we started there our rent was 5 a month and included water and electric. Our only other expense was propane for heating and hot water. Oak Grove supplied 2- 100 lb propane tanks and they automatically changed the tanks for us. This is genuinely nice, kind of like self-acting oil delivery when you own a house. While the warmer months we hardly use any propane, maybe a bottle every other month if that. However, wintertime we will use 3-4 bottles a month due to the heater. Currently propane runs about a bottle. So from the standpoint of renting an apartment to living in an Rv expenses are commonly cheaper. My daughter pays 0 a month for an apartment near us and we pay on median 5-450.

Other benefits of living in a Rv - people! The citizen you find camping are the most overwhelming folks you will ever come across. They are friendly, helpful, young at heart and just plain nice to be around. We have been avid campers since before we were married. I used to sneak down to De where my wife (girlfriend at the time) and her house were camping and pitch a tent, then make myself part of the family. In the roughly 40 years we have been together and camping we have never met whatever that was rude, a thief, or not willing to lend a hand if asked. In fact we have had more offers of help without request than anytime we lived in a house or apartment.

It's funny, but when I traveled and stayed at hotels, you roughly felt like a ghost or leopard or something. Heaven forbid if you said 'hi' to someone in the elevator or hallway. But when camping, every person waves as you walk by, some will offer drinks or have you sit by the fire and chat for hours. Its like we are all family.

Speaking of fires, what is it about a campfire? To sit down at night around a nice campfire is so relaxing. Nothing needs to be said, just watch the flames and it seems all the stress just floats away. But campfires have other benefit, food. Nothing tastes better than food cooked over an open fire. Try doing that in an apartment.

Rving has other benefit, vacations. If you live in an apartment, you vacation consist of going to a destination, finding a hotel/motel, eating out every meal, and taking sufficient clothes with you for the distance of the vacation. When you live in a Rv, your home goes with you. 30-40 minutes to pack the Rv, disconnect the utilities and hook up to the truck and you are on the road. When you get to your vacation destination, other 30-40 minutes and you are ready to enjoy the sites. Meals are not a problem, you have a faultless kitchen already stocked just like at home, since it is home. On a special diet? No problem, you normal routine is uninterrupted. Clothes get dirty, a lot of Rv come with washers and dryers, so you can do your laundry while relaxing in the evenings or before you get started for the day. Rving is commonly cheaper too. When you assess the expenses you will find the Rv trip is a lot cheaper than hotel/restaurant trip.

Rv Tips for holding Tanks

Today we're going to talk about Rv retention tanks. To start with, I wanted to mention something about Rv retention tanks that I don't think a lot of Rvers are aware of. Many of the free dump stations available to Rvers are end because of chemicals that are harmful to septic systems and because Rvers are abusing these dump stations. If we want to have access to these dump stations it is undoubtedly requisite that we use septic safe chemicals (no formaldehyde), and that we clean up after ourselves and do not abuse dump stations.

Your Rv has what is referred to as a gray water retention tank and a black water retention tank. The gray water retention tank collects dirty water from the kitchen sink, bathroom sink and shower. The black water retention tank is for the toilet. These tanks end into one main outlet used to empty the retention tanks. This is where we associate our sewer hose.

Portable & Novelty TVs

Make sure you have the required couplings and connectors. It may be requisite to attach two hoses together to reach the sewer connection. I advise you only use heavy duty sewer hoses. Their not that high-priced and they hold up much better. Keep a 10 foot hose and a 20 foot hose available. Do not pull or drag the sewer hose on the ground. This will cause it to tear or get pin holes in it.

To hook up the sewer hose make sure both valves are accomplished and take off the sewer cap. Make the association by putting the hose adapter over the outlet and turn it clockwise until it locks securely in place. Take the other end of the hose over to the campground sewer connection. Use the requisite adapters to make the association and get a good seal. It's a good idea to place some weight over the hose so it doesn't jump back out when you drain the tanks. It may be requisite to use some type of sewer hose support to get a good angle from the Rv to the campground sewer association so the tanks drain properly when you empty them. The small valve is for the gray water tank and the large valve is for the black water tank.

One golden rule for Rv retention tanks is to never dump the black water tank until it is at least two thirds full. You want the tank nearly full so the weight and the gravity will force the contents of the tank to drain properly. Someone else golden rule is to never leave the black tank valve open at the campground and expect the toilet to drain or flush like the toilet in your home. It won't work.

When the tanks are full, or nearly full all the time dump the black tank first, followed by the gray tank. The gray water tank should also be at least two thirds full. Dumping the gray water tank last will help to flush the sewer hose out.

When you're at the campground for an extended period of time you can leave the gray tank valve partially open so it drains as you use it, but remember to Never do this with the black tank. If it's time to leave the campground and your retention tanks are not full you can end filling them with water and then dump them. Never use your drinking water hose for retention tank maintenance or cleaning purposes. Rv drinking hoses are commonly white. Take a dissimilar color hose for others uses so you can distinguish the difference.

After you dump the tanks you need to completely flush the tanks out. Some Rvs have a built in ideas for flushing the tanks out. If not there are other ways to do it. You can use a tank wand designed for cleaning and flushing the black tank. The only question is you don't know when or if the black tank is undoubtedly clean and you can't rinse or clean the gray tank with a wand. I use a product calLED the Flush King. It's a reverse flush valve that connects directly to your sewer outlet and rinses and cleans both retention tanks in one uncomplicated operation. It's easy to use and it has a see through barrel so you know when the tanks are undoubtedly clean.

Every time you dump the black tank you need to treat it with retention tank chemicals to sustain in controlling odors and to break down solids. You should all the time use environmentally safe chemicals. Enzyme based chemicals use the good bacteria to absorb waste and control odors. Formaldehyde based chemicals destroy the bacteria that's needed to break down waste and they can be risky to humans and pets.

The first step is to add sufficient water to completely cover the lowest of the tank. Four or five toilet bowls full should be sufficient depending on the size of your black tank. Water will sustain a great deal with controlling retention tank odors. You all the time want the contents of the tank to be covered by water. Next, fill the toilet bowl and add the permissible whole of retention tank chemicals, commonly four ounces for every forty gallons the tank holds. Flush the toilet. Repeat this procedure every time you empty the black water retention tank. Some retention tank chemicals like Rv Trine also contains valve lubricants to keep the valves operating properly and expand the valve seals life.

You should all the time use toilet paper designed for use in Rvs. This toilet paper breaks down and dissolves in the retention tank chemicals preventing inherent problems with the retention tank, the Rv sewer ideas and the dump hub septic system.
False retention tank readings on your monitor panel are caused by the retention tank probes being covered by toilet tissue or other debris. If flushing the tank doesn't solve the question add some water and a merge bags of ice cubes to the empty retention tank. Drive or pull the trailer so the ice cubes can scrub the sides of the tank. permissible retention tank chemicals will also keep the retention tank probes clean.

Over time grease and residue builds up in the gray tank and it causes a foul odor, not to mention how it is affecting the tank and valve assembly. Periodically treat the gray tank with environmentally safe retention tank chemicals to avoid odors from the tank. When the tank is empty you can also add some dish washing liquid down the drains to help break down grease and residue build up.

Following these uncomplicated retention tank tips can preclude problems and provide you with long chronic trouble free retention tanks. This is one question we can all do without! Shopping for a welding machine and wondering which is the best one? Here is my advice: Think about getting more than one. Why?

Because no particular welding machine will do everything as well as having separate welding machines, each designed to do one process and do it well.

It takes a limited exertion and you may have to drive for a few hours but you will save hundreds if not thousands of dollars as compared to buying new machines or a new multiprocess welder.

The panel is equipped with a host of energy-saving functions, and its Contrast Automatic Tracking System (C.A.T.S.) senses ambient light and adjusts brightness and gradation accordingly.
